A variety of advertising messages, impressively large dimensions to suit them and creative design — these are the characteristic features of posters as a type of printed product. They are produced by printing houses and companies that specialise in the production of printed products.
Poster printing in Kyiv is carried out by staff with vast experience in this field and using modern equipment that meets the "classics of the printing genre". Posters are produced in the shortest possible time, taking into account all the customer's wishes. Production is carried out in standard sizes. Most often, orders come in for the printing of A2, A3 and A5 posters, as this format is fairly large while its cost is affordable for any category of customer. The choice of format is determined by the message, namely the information placed on the product.
The purpose of a poster is to attract the attention of the target audience, of as many people as possible. This is the most economical way to advertise a product or service. The cost of printing posters directly depends on the quality and density of the paper, the number of printed sides and the total print run.
The material used
Coated or offset paper, or cardboard, is used for printing posters. The thickness of the paper ranges from 0.05 to 0.45 millimetres. Depending on the type of paper chosen, its density also varies. For example, the density of offset paper is 70–80 gsm, which is identical to office paper stock, while the density of coated paper ranges from 90 to 300 grams per square metre. Paper products from 300 gsm are commonly called cardboard. Such density gives the finished product additional strength. Coated paper is also used for printing business cards and similar products.
For large-format printing, all paper is divided into three main groups:
· Special. This paper is suitable only for certain types of posters because of its density.
· Universal paper is applicable to most posters.
· Moisture-resistant paper is intended for posters that will be placed outdoors.
The base material differs in its purpose. For example, for colour printing or photographic printing. The second type of paper is multi-layered. This feature ensures the richness of colours and the realism of the image.
The poster production process
For large-format printing, colour offset printing is used in most cases. The most significant part of this process is making the offset plates from the layout of the future poster. One plate is designed for a print run of several thousand copies.
For image accuracy, 4 primary colours are applied. In some cases it is acceptable to use a 6- and 8-colour palette.
For printing A4 posters, A2-format offset printing is used. The advantage is the accuracy of the image without distorting small details. Most defects in the work are associated with poor-quality technical equipment, which is why companies try to use new equipment adapted to modern requirements.
The production process also includes post-press work. For a presentable appearance, a UV-protective varnish coating is used. Lamination, in turn, gives the finished product water-repellent properties. However, it costs considerably more.
