Booklet production
Booklets are a type of printed product of an advertising or informational nature. They are a kind of flyer, yet the differences between the two products are immediately apparent. A flyer is usually printed on both sides of a flat, unfolded sheet of paper. A booklet, in turn, consists of a sheet of heavier paper in a slightly larger format and has a folding, unfolding form, meaning the product can consist of several pages. But it has its own twist: the «pages» are not joined by any fasteners but are formed by intricate folds of the sheet.
The advantage of booklets lies in fitting a large amount of information, easy for the potential customer to take in, onto a fairly small sheet of paper. If needed, it can be folded to fit into an envelope, including a Euro-standard one.
Types of booklets by purpose
The information they carry varies greatly in meaning, so the products are divided by their purpose:
1. Advertising booklets contain information, possibly in a concise form, about the advertised goods and services. They are used as handout material during promotional campaigns.
2. Informational products contain useful information of various kinds. The usefulness of the information is determined by the interest of a broad consumer audience. Informational products can be presented in various forms and under any circumstances, including being posted on poles, at bus stops, and so on.
3. Image products contain specific information about the company that produces the goods or services. The history of its founding and various awards are described in a concise form. Image flyers are usually handed out at conferences or events.
4. Mailing booklets are intended for a narrow circle of consumers who are regular customers. They may contain news or changes in company policy, and so on. Such printed products are usually distributed by mail.
Differences in folding and sheet format
The production and printing of booklets differ at the next stage, namely in the type of folding of the finished product.
There are two types of folding, which can later be combined with each other:
1. Accordion folding. Here the direction of each fold is opposite to the previous one.
2. With «napkin» folding, all folds point in the same direction.
Booklets are printed on sheets in A1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and A6 formats. Booklets can have one or more folds. Post-press processing is carried out strictly according to the customer's individual requirements.
Booklet printing
Booklet printing in Kyiv is done in several ways:
· Offset printing uses coated paper. The paper density averages 150 grams per square metre. The offset method uses full-colour printing on one or both sides.
· For rapid production, digital (express) printing is used. A full range of colours and fast production are its distinctive features.
The printing company's staff can recommend the source material right on the spot, since different paper is recommended depending on the type of booklet and its purpose.
